National Trails Day Bioblitz

June 6 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free

Please join the National Park Service for a fun and FREE volunteer event this National Trails Day! Spend time outside and help park rangers identify plants and animals along your trails at Big Hole National Battlefield. We will provide nature-themed bingo cards for you to complete alongside your friends and family.

Your gracious donation of time will help us identify more species for the NPS BIHO iNaturalist Collection Project. This public collection of natural observations informs scientists and park rangers on the natural resources present at this NPS site.

No need to RSVP! This is a drop in style event, so feel free to show up anytime between 10 AM and 1 PM.  Big Hole National Battlefield is a sacred and historic place. We kindly ask that you treat the landscape with the respect it deserves by staying on the trails; no dogs are allowed on trails. The trails are relatively flat and on a hard-packed dirt surface, each 1-2 miles long. Keep in mind that the battlefield is at 6,000+ ft elevation, so take your time and take breaks as needed.

We recommend that you bring your own:

  • Phone (to take photos of cool species you see)
  • Binoculars
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug Spray
  • Closed Toed Shoes
  • Water bottle

Directions: Once you see the Big Hole National Battlefield sign along Highway 43, turn onto Park Entrance Road. Take the first left you see. Drive about 1 mile down the road until you enter the parking lot. We will be at the trailhead to the Siege Trail.

Feel free to contact Emilia_deino@partner.nps.gov if you have any questions. We hope to see you there!
